The Magic of Craniosacral therapy and nutrition from gestation to birth and more:

DNa support and avoidance of triggering the damaging genetic family gene:

The Magic of Craniosacral therapy and nutrition from gestation to birth and more:

Since I have been working as a craniosacral therapist I know that the foetus can feel the parent’s voices and the mother feelings. There have been some studies now undergoing and many infants and children’s psychologist that have just about confirmed that the mother state of mind and nutritional health is very important during pregnancy.

“You are what you eat, and your baby is what you eat too!”

Also they are now connecting the fact the diet can trigger genetic predispositions in the womb if the mother eats in an unhealthy way or certain foods that can trigger that. Now the majority of mothers eating very healthy and the majority have a bit of stress and anxiety during pregnancy or their life in general. Chestnuts and the nutritional value

Chestnuts and their nutritional value

October is one of my favourite months, even though it starts to be colder and damp, when I see chestnuts on the corner of the street in London, reminds me of Italy at Christmas time and about a fireplace. Chestnuts are also nutritionally good for us.

They are different from other tree nuts. They have no protein but high slow release carbohydrate. They are one of the only nuts that contain half of the recommended dosage of vitamin C, they contain other nutrients such as manganese, molybdenum, magnesium, copper and B1. They are a very good Continue reading “Chestnuts and the nutritional value”

Tumeric and other nutrients for allergies

Tumeric has been now researched extensively for its immune suppressing properties and more on the inflammatory cascade suppression and helping regulating the immune system. One of the studies that I read was about the balance of turmeric of Th1 (the virus immune system, which is lower in people with allergy) and the Th2 immune system which is the allergy one, which is up regulated in people and children with allergies. So the turmeric is one of the natural components that would regulate the two. Continue reading “Tumeric and other nutrients for allergies”

CranioSacral treatments for teeth, jaw and teething

Cranio-sacral treatments and dentistry:

I have heard few times about people asking if Cranio-sacral helps with dental problems or Temporal Joint problems. Including grinding your teeth at night. And the answer is “Yes” all types of cranio-sacral treatments manage the tightness and pain of your mouth and jaw. This is especially if you had a lot of dental works, it takes the pain but also the stress and shock to the mouth.

One of my patients could not even talk or eat properly as her mouth was too painful. I worked on her for few sessions and she managed to be pain free and eat well. It is never too late to have some work on your jaw and mouth if you had a lot of work on your teeth or if you grind your teeth at night. CST works on the entire body and the sessions include the entire system.

CST treatments also helps with big teething problems in infants, especially with molars which can also lead to ear problems because of the inflammation and tightness of the jaw. The inflammation caused by the molars or other teeth coming out can lead also to respiratory inflammation or tightness of the entire system which can be quite uncomfortable for the baby. In some cases, infection can lead to the baby having to take antibiotics, which leads to destruction of the intestinal friendly bacteria which in turn leads to intestinal upset afterwards and the cycle starts again with another physical problems. So in all if your baby is having teething problems it is worth to have a session or two to relax the entire system so that the baby does get the best possible experience with their growing teeth!

Eating disorders and disorder eating

Eating disorder and disorder eating.

Since I graduated in 2001, I have seen teenagers, dancers and adults as well as children having eating disorder or a disorder eating. I have attended few B.e.a.t. workshops and worked in a clinic where dancers where dropping in from their dance classes with wanted to lose weight in already skinny body! I have read many books and journals related to the problem and witnessed many cases of eating disorders and disorder eating.

The disorder eating is mainly people that use their foods as an emotional excuse and therefore either they eat the food and drink that makes them feel worse or better according to their moods, instead of dealing with their own emotions first and what is going on around them.

According to the papers that I read and the workshops I attended the cause of the most serious eating disorders are either trauma from children or teenagers and or fears of being around in the world. Those fears can be from their parents or from hearing it all around them on the news.

If their parents never taught them Continue reading “Eating disorders and disorder eating”

Cranio-Sacral Therapy for bloating

As a nutritionist I work a lot with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) people. I have found that in my 14 years of experience that many symptoms of bloating is due to food intolerance, allergies and masked sensitivities. A percentage is due to intestinal tract being full of unfriendly bacteria and little good bacteria. Quite often the so called leaky gut, which will let complex food into the blood stream is the problem. This ends up by having the immune system not recognising the complex food and therefore attacks it as it would be an enemy. Many times though even after all is well and repaired some bloating stays and quite often with sessions of cranio-sacral therapy goes and rarely comes back.

I have seen many bloating and rumbling of the intestinal tract being due to emotional upset and or past trauma that has not been dealt with, which it means the body and mind needs to deal with in some. Sometimes counselling is good and sometimes the body and the mind and soul needs to be integrated before it can work.

CST will include all that, once the body/mind is integrated than life seems to be easier and happier for the individual. It is hard work before that though as the soul might be carrying some trauma or emotional upset that the body and mind does not want to deal with. Quite often the people I see are ready to heal and therefore to be connected to their body and soul, sometimes they are not, the beauty of the CST is that things will come out on the surface only when the person is ready to deal with it.

Quite often a trust between the therapist and the person is needed for that to surface. Once that is established than all can be dealt with professionally and compassionately for the highest good of the person and family involved. CST is a very gentle and very powerful therapy which has changed the lives of many people I worked with and had a positive start for many babies paving the way for a positive life with the immune system working at its best. Illness or disease might happen still but they will be dealt by the immune system quickly and swiftly which is the way it should be!

Osteoporosis prevention and bone health for this winter

Building strong bones for prevention of osteoporosis even at young age

Autumn is almost here and with autumn in England the sun ray will be a bit further away, which it means less vitamin D forming for all of us.  All the seasons are wonderful as each brings their own beauty and health. Even though we might eat as healthy as possible though, vitamin D is one of the vitamins that we might all lack at the end of winter if we do not supply ourselves and our children extra in a supplement form. Since the testing of vitamin D around the world, there is an increase awareness of how little vitamin D we get from our food and light in England and countries where the Sunshine is little and short in supply. Most of our vitamin D comes from the sunshine, however I have seen and experienced low vitamin D even in the sunniest countries. That is because vitamin D needs to be activated by the liver and kidneys and if that they do not work properly either genetically or for overload, than we end up with very low bioavailable vitamin D. My suggestion as a Nutritionist is to supply the vitamin D3 from November to April and spend as much time in the sun or outside as possible to get some from the skin. If you are one of the lucky ones that can go away for the winter, than you do not need as much. Darker skins do need more exposure or take the extra supplement as the light in England will not be enough. You can get some vitamin D from oily fish and from dairy and eggs however might not be enough or if you have problems with your intestinal tract and digestion you might not absorb it enough and especially if you are intolerant or allergic to diary and you do not know or you keep having it.

Vitamin D is not the only minerals important for the bones. The obvious other ones are calcium and magnesium, however zinc, boron and K2 (vitamin K2 and in some extend K1 prat of vitamin K family)  are also essential for bone health. Phosphorus as important as calcium, about 80% of phosphorus is found in the skeleton, 14% is found in muscles and body tissue and the remaining is found in body fluids and blood.

  • Phosphorous is found in a lot of foods including meat, fish, eggs, milk, nuts cereals, grains chocolate. Unfortunately a lot of the junk foods and drinks also contain a lot of phosphorus and quite often if you have not a good diet with plenty of calcium to balance that out, you might end up with too much phosphorous and little calcium If you eat healthy, than phosphorus is found in meat and dairy and vegetables.
  • Zinc is found in pumpkin seeds, oysters and meat;
  • Boron is found in fruits, vegetables and legumes, and not so much in meat and fish.
  • Vitamin K is found mainly in green leafy vegetables, highest in the endive lettuce and dark green vegetables,

Exercise also is very important for inserting calcium and other minerals into the bones. This is done by getting the old bones out and renewing the bones with the new minerals.

As little as walking at a fast pace is enough to get the calcium in. Any other weight bearing exercise is also great. Swimming is not useful for building bones, but great for keeping fit.

Nutritional tips for healing after giving birth

As labour and pregnancy does take a toll on the body and especially after birth the body has been depleted from many of the resources that have been put in. Therefore it is very important that you replace those in higher amount. So food that contain vitamin C such as fruits and vegetables, blueberries, cherries, goji berries and strawberries if you are not allergic to them is good to eat plenty of, as well as greens such a green leafy vegetables raw or cooked, peppers have high content of vitamin C, as well as kiwi and oranges. If you feel that you do not want to eat fruits or vegetable for any reason than have at least a supplement post- natal one with extra vitamin C.
