Why babies and mothers need Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Babies go through birth sometimes with easy and sometimes with difficulty. Sometimes the stress of being born it is quite shocking for their little system, combined with the parent’s change of the entire world that is a big stress all together. Sometimes the physical trauma and change can affect the mood and behaviour of both mother and baby. Baby primitive and survival nervous system can be quite active, which it means the other part of the nervous system cannot give the signal to relax and make enzymes to digest the milk. Resulting in colic’s, frequent reflux and constant crying with a need of being held and having that comfort touch of the mother and or father. During birth there is a lot of compression and de-compression of the baby body, with that some of the nerves can get stuck, which can over stimulate the system, which make the baby unable to let go completely and fall asleep easily. They can have nightmares of their birth if it was traumatic or had too much intervention just after birth. Most of the time when the baby either breastfeed or sucks on a little finger or pacifier, the compression relaxes and sometimes that is enough, in other times it needs an external help to keep the cranio-sacral fluids staying unstuck and free of blockages, which cranio-sacral does just that. Some babies needs only 2 or 3 in others, especially if they are older, needs a little bit more. All the sessions releases some blockages or another and for some needs to stay with it and combine dietary interventions with breastfeeding skills and or quite time with parents and baby, in order to connect fully outside the womb. I always suggest the mother to experience the treatment as well as that makes things for both the baby and the mother more balanced. Even though sometimes the results are not as visible, things do change inside and that makes a huge difference for their lives later on. I have seen though many visible results in the sessions and as the babies are very sensitive they can sense my touch and quite often guide me where they would like some release from their compression. Quite often is just helping them to let go of the shock helps them to relax and enjoy the new surrounding!
