krill oil what is the fuss about

Krill are tiny crustacean’s family that is found in abundance in the sea. The word krill in Norwegian means “young fry of fish”. It is the favorite food of Whales, seals, penguins, squid. One of the reasons that scientist and companies are trying to find a different source of oily fish so that do not deplete nature from its fish. Krill breed in a big quantity so it is easier to get the oil. Also the commercial breeding is done in the Southern Ocean of Japan. There are a lot of questions from public to know what is the difference now with the fish oil and the krill oil.  Few differences stand up from the benefit of fish oil. One is the Astaxanthin, an anti-oxidant, which is part of the carotenoid family of anti-oxidant. The carotenoid property in krill fish are due to the orange pigment color. This anti-oxidant is very beneficial for the eyes and fat cells. The amount of Astaxanthin in the krill oil is enough to counter act also the oxidation of the oil in the body. You do not need to add vitamin E to taking the fish oil. The other it seems that krill oil get absorbed through the phospholipid (lipid that are one of the main components of cell membrane) much easier. So the same amount of krill oil vs the fish oil will get you more EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) but the same amount of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) according to many studies. The benefit of the krill and fish oils are the same though. They both reduce inflammation, reduce the bad cholesterol and increase the good ones, they are used for myelin formation and repair. So the main differences are that krill oil can be farmed and be produces in higher quantity. The absorption of the Krill oil is much easier therefore you need less than the fish oil to get more. The antioxidant property of the Astaxanthin has got the major advantage from the fish oil so far. More and more studies will be done on the benefit against the fish oil but so far it is worth to try both the fish oil or the krill oil to see if it suits different individual better.
